Supported Employment and Education (SEED)

Community Based Program offered through Bert Nash for Adults. Using the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model, the SEED program offers Supported Employment and Supported Education case management services. Supported employment is a term used to describe programs and services that help individuals with mental health challenges secure and maintain meaningful employment. Supported employment programs assist the individual with everything from the job search to job training and on-site counseling. Supported Education is a psychiatric rehabilitation practice based on proven research principles. The aim of this program is to provide the opportunities, resources, and support to people with psychiatric disabilities so they may gain admittance to and succeed in the pursuit of post-secondary education. 

SEED can assist students with:

- career/school exploration
- developing/accessing school resources
- supportive assistance focused on academic issues and managing symptoms while in school enrollment process
- FAFSA application
- request for accommodations
- teaching students to become their own advocates
work with rehabilitative services to develop goals and objectives
- act as a liaison between the student and staff at schools and community organizations

Supported employment programs assist the individual with everything from the job search to job training and onsite counseling. Individuals receive the following services:

- assessment of vocational strengths and skills
- assistance with identifying career goals
- job skills training
- job placement
- collaboration with the employer, case management, personnel, medical services, psychosocial programs
- other therapies and job retention programs

Prospective clients are individuals who have experienced mental health challenges and are now on the road to recovery. Some individuals do not have previous work experience, while others may have extensive experience. Individuals may be returning to the workforce after a prolonged absence or looking for support in maintaining their current job.
