2022 Tax Information
We now have 1040 and 1040 SR forms and instruction booklets available at the library. While many other tax forms can be printed from the IRS website, opens a new window, employer returns such as W-2 and information returns such as 1099-MISC must be ordered from the IRS. Please consult the following information for access to additional forms and tax assistance. NOTE: The IRS is predicting significant delays in processing paper returns this year. There are several free online filing options detailed in the information below.
State tax forms are not available at the library. For paper forms, contact the Kansas Taxpayer Assistance Center at (785) 368-8222.

Several organizations provide VITA* services to taxpayers.
*VITA: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance. An IRS program available to taxpayers who make less than $56,000 a year.
Catholic Charities VITA Program
Catholic Charities is not offering VITA services this year.
Kansas Tax-Aide, opens a new window (AARP Foundation Tax-Aide)
- Lawrence Central United Methodist Church, 1501 Massachusetts St
- Call 785-691-9737 to schedule an appointment beginning 1/18. Forms and instruction booklets are also available for pick-up beginning 1/18.
- AARP appointments begin 2/1 (in-person).
- There is no age limit for AARP Tax-Aide assistance.

KU Law & Legal Services for Students VITA, opens a new window
- Available to Douglas County residents with an income of $58,000 or less.
- Sessions run 2/21 to 4/16. No assistance will be available 3/12 to 3/20 (KU spring break).
- Appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the following times:
- Mondays: 6PM-8:45PM
- Wednesdays: 3PM-5:45PM
- Saturdays: 9AM-11:45AM
- All appointments will be in Green Hall, 1535 W. 15th St (Computer Lab, 3rd Floor Library).

What to Bring to Your VITA Appointment
These are the general documents you should plan on bringing. Check with your VITA provider for details.
- Previous year's tax return(s)
- Social Security cards
- Government-issued photo ID for each taxpayer
- Bank account information for direct deposit
- Copies of W-2 forms for all jobs worked in 2021
- Copies of 1099 forms for other income, if any
- Copies of 1095 forms if you purchased health insurance through the Marketplace
- Copies of 1098 forms for education expenses
