2023 Tax Information
We have copies of 1040 and 1040 SR forms and instruction booklets in English and Spanish available at the library. While most other tax forms can be printed from the IRS website, opens a new window, employer returns such as W-2 and information returns such as 1099-MISC must be ordered from the IRS. Please consult the following information for access to additional forms and tax assistance. NOTE: The IRS is predicting significant delays in processing paper returns this year. There are several free online filing options detailed in the information below.
State tax forms are not available at the library. For paper forms, contact the Kansas Taxpayer Assistance Center at (785) 368-8222.

Several local organizations typically provide VITA* or AARP Foundation Tax-Aide** services to taxpayers.
*VITA: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance. An IRS program available to taxpayers who generally make less than $60,000 a year, persons with disabilities, and/or limited English-speaking taxpayers.
**AARP Foundation Tax-Aide provides tax preparation assistance free of charge, with a special focus on taxpayers who are over 50 and have low-to-moderate income.

VITA Program Through The University of Kansas School of Law, opens a new window
- Law students provide free federal and state tax preparation services.
- Available to Douglas County residents with an income of $60,000 or less.
- This service operates on a first-come, first-served basis (except at the Ballard Center location)

What to Bring to Your VITA Appointment
- Previous year's tax return
- Social security cards
- Government issued photo ID
- Bank account information for direct deposit
- Copies of all W-2 forms for jobs worked in 2022
- Copies of 1099 forms for other income, if any
- Copies of 1095 forms if you purchased healthcare through the Marketplace
- Copies of 1098 forms for education expenses
