Long Acting Reversible Contraceptives (L.A.R.C.)s

Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health is now offering long-term birth control, including an implant and two types of IUD's, with flexible payment options. Long-acting reversible contraceptives don't require any upkeep, last several years, and can be removed at any time by a health worker. 

  • LARCs are 99% effective at preventing pregnancy 
  • LARCs do not prevent transmission of HIV or STDs 
  • No insurance is necessary for those seeking LARCs, sliding scale fee starts at $0.00 & is based on income 
  • Minimum age of 14, no parental accompaniment/approval required 

What LARCs are available? 

  • Nexplanon, an arm implant that can be effective for up to three years 
  • Liletta, hormonal IUD that can be effective for up to six years 
  • Paragard, nonhormonal IUD that can prevent pregnancy for up to 10 years
