What is the Kids' Action Club Art Auction? What is it for?
Add some whimsy to your art collection! Drawings of donuts, books, cute dogs—even a unicorn cat—are up for silent auction bids in the Library Atrium through Friday, July 26 at 7:30 PM.
This effort by the library's Kids' Action Club, opens a new window aims to raise funds to benefit the library in honor of our building's 10-year renovation anniversary, opens a new window. All proceeds go to the LPL Friends & Foundation and support our literacy efforts.
Folks can place their bids on the bidding sheets at the tables in the Auditorium. Auction bids run until the Last Bash Summer Reading event which–by the way–is sure to be loads of fun. Also, fun fact: Art is next year's Summer Reading Theme!
What can you expect at the 10th Anniversary Party & Summer Reading Last Bash?
We’re celebrating the 10th anniversary of the library's "new" building with an extra special end-of-summer reading Last Bash. In a nod to our 2014 grand opening party where we watched the original Ghostbusters, we'll be showing Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire on the Lawn! We'll kick things off indoors at 5 PM with music from No Bow Tie and Chris Luxem & Nathan Dixey followed by dance performances by Dance Hues Studio and The Last Carnival. After that we'll head outside for games on the lawn, food trucks, Free State Brewery beer, free popcorn, and a swinging, big band performance from the Jazzhawks. Ad Astra Photo Booth will be here too! Be sure to stop in and preserve the memories.
To make the Last Bash that much sweeter, Kids' Action Club is hosting a Donut Drive fundraiser to benefit Just Food, opens a new window. Donuts will be for sale for a suggested donation of $2. Quick Trip generously donated 500 donuts! We’ll also have a "Donut Duel" to taste test our local donut shops with the help of guest judges Mayor Littlejohn, Representative Christina Haswood, Director of KU Basketball Operations Fred Quartlebaum, and our very own Director Brad Allen. Pick up a donut, lay out your picnic blankets or camping chairs, and get settled for one of the best movie viewings of the summer in Lawrence!
