Summer Reading School Visits Are Here!

It is a truth universally acknowledged that when you ask your kiddo what they did at school today, the answer will be along the lines of "umm...nothing," or even "I don't know."

Even though it seems almost impossible that either response is correct, it is tradition for all school aged kids to give that answer at some point. If you are a parent and you're wondering what your public school student is up to this April & May, I might have the answer!

The Youth Services Department staff is about to embark on one of the busiest times of year, Summer Reading School visits! During these visits, public school students either visit LPL OR receive a visit from us. During the visits, we will go over the rules for Summer Reading, the different activities your kiddo can participate in, and prizes!

These yearly visits aim to educate students about the different opportunities over the Summer. However, we totally get that a school day is LONG and once you get home, you just want to rest. So, if you're wondering what your child is getting up to at school, you might ask if they got a visit from a super cool librarian.

You might even quiz them on what they learned, if you're feeling extra mischievous. Here's some questions you can ask!

Q: How many books do you need to read to complete Summer Reading?

A: You need to read either 10 books or 30 hours! You can also use our app, Beanstack to do a combination of both books and hours.

Q: When does Summer Reading Start?
A: The last day of school!

Q: Do graphic novels and audiobooks count?
A: Absolutely!

Q: What is the theme this year?
A: Read, Score, Roar! (Dino Soccer!)

Maybe your kid learned about outer space, or maybe they're doing a unit on triangles. I don't know, I haven't been in school for a loooong time. What I do know, is that if you have a public school student, they're very likely to have the chance to hear about Summer Reading!
