Hey, summer readers! We called for local teens to submit Summer Reading designs and one was perfect for this year's theme, "Adventure Begins at Your Library / La Aventura Comienza en tu Biblioteca." Now you can now get your own hand-pulled silkscreened Summer Reading tee just like library staff have thanks to Leslie at LFK Press, opens a new window. These tees were designed by Abby, a local teen who won our t-shirt design contest! All we did was add the park sign and font—everything else was her idea! Meet Abby, the Teen Summer Reading T-Shirt Designer in this Q&A.

Meet Abby, the teen Summer Reading t-shirt designer

Introduce yourself. What are your interests, hobbies, etc.? What do you like to do when you're not making art?

My name is Abby McDonald. I am 16 years old and attend Lawrence Virtual School.

My main passion is being a multimedia artist. My hobbies include drawing, building creatures out of recycled materials, and creating short animations. I also enjoy reading, playing racquetball, games, and the keyboard. My favorite book series is Wings of Fire.

Why did you enter the Summer Reading T-Shirt Contest?

I entered the contest because I thought it would be cool to have my drawing on the shirts for the Summer Reading program. I always enjoy getting the shirt every year.

How did you approach the design?

Whenever I read a book it makes me feel Iike I am in a completely different world. I wanted to express that with my drawing.

Thanks for picking me!
