More Digital Magazine Titles with Libby
Library patrons now have access to more digital magazines than ever before. Under our previous license with Flipster, library cardholders had access to about 20 digital magazine titles. Now with Libby, cardholders can read thousands more at the touch of a button.
“There are over 5,000 titles on Libby Magazines, including a ton of publications from countries all over the world that we wouldn't usually add to our collection,” said Kevin Corcoran, Cataloging and Collection Development Supervisor. “And patrons can now check out issues at any time with no wait.”
Unlike Libby’s ebook and audiobook licenses, there is no waitlist, no loan limits, and no due dates for reading their collection of digital magazines. Whether you’re a fan of The New Yorker or Vogue, In-Fisherman or Wired, you can quickly enjoy the latest issue with a library card, internet access, and a phone, tablet, or computer.
A Magazine for Every Interest
Thanks to Libby’s filtered search tool, you can explore the magazine collection by titles, audience, subject, and language. You can also search popular categories like Cooking and Food, Travel and Outdoors, Home and Garden, Health and Fitness, Crafts and Hobbies, and many more — each with hundreds of titles to explore.
By selecting “subscribe” on the title of your choice, each new issue will automatically appear in your “Magazine Rack” — located within your personal Libby shelf — as it becomes available. And while you wait for the latest issue, you can search the archive of each title, including up to three years of previous issues to explore.
Changes in Our Digital Magazine Collection
Patrons who frequent our digital magazine collection will notice The Atlantic and People magazine are not available on Libby. Both magazines have an exclusive license with Flipster, but our Collection Development team has not given up on finding a way for library patrons to access the digital publications for free.
“The Atlantic is behind a paywall, and doesn’t offer institutional subscriptions like we have with The New York Times and Washington Post,” Corcoran explained. “If we are ever able to subscribe to it directly, we will try our best to make that happen.”
In the meantime, both magazines are available in print at the library, and fans of People magazine can still read their digital content on their website for free.
Libby Magazines is now available through our digital library. You can learn more about navigating the platform with Libby’s “Reading magazines” FAQ page, or swing by the library for more personalized assistance.
