2026 Tax Information
We have not yet received tax forms for the current tax season. When the tax forms arrive, we expect to have copies of 1040 and 1040 SR forms and instruction booklets in English and Spanish available. Most other tax forms can be printed from the IRS website;, opens a new window however, employer returns such as W-2 and information returns such as 1099-MISC must be ordered from the IRS. Please consult the information below for access to additional forms and tax assistance, including information about free online filing options.
State tax forms are not available at the library. For paper forms, contact the Kansas Taxpayer Assistance Center at (785) 368-8222.

Several local organizations typically provide VITA* or AARP Foundation Tax-Aide** services to taxpayers. We will add information about those services here when we have more details.
*VITA: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance. An IRS program available to taxpayers who generally make $67,000 a year or less, persons with disabilities, and/or limited English-speaking taxpayers.
**AARP Foundation Tax-Aide provides tax preparation assistance free of charge, with a special focus on taxpayers who are over 50 and have low-to-moderate income.

- Real estate taxes if claiming Kansas Homestead/Property Tax Relief Refund
- Summary list of deductible items if itemizing
- A voided check to verify bank account and routing numbers for Direct Deposit

- There is no age limit for AARP Tax-Aide assistance.

The KU Law VITA program is offering walk-in tax assistance from February 16-April 15. There will be no sessions the week of March 16. Sessions will be held on the following days and times:
- Mondays, 6-8:45 PM at Green Hall (1535 W. 15th St.)
- Wednesdays, 6-8:45 PM at Green Hall
- Thursdays, 5-7 PM at the Lawrence-Douglas County Housing Authority (1600 Haskell Avenue)
- Saturdays, 9-11:45 AM at Green Hall
