Independence Inc serves both people who have disabilities and the communities where they live. They provide services to people with disabilities that are a result of aging or other life changes. Resources include a publicly accessible computer lab with a variety of assistive technologies, a medical equipment loan bank, and a selection of specialized phones available through the Telecommunications Access Program (TAP).   • Employment Services: 
    • assistance with creating/updating resumes

    • Assist with learning how to budget and manage finances
    • Strengthen organizational skills 
    • Create routines, schedules, or to-do lists 
    • Meal planning and preparation 
    • Cleaning and cooking skills 
    • Navigating Community Resources 
    • Learning Tech Skills 
    • Setting up accessibility features on phones, computers, tablets, etc., 
    • Create problem-solving 
    • Managing or setting up a checking/savings account 
    • Working on self-advocacy or assertiveness skills 
  • Advocacy 
    • Connect people to attorneys, advocates, and legal aid services 
    • Advocate for finding and maintaining housing or employment 
    • Making reasonable accommodation requests in writing 
    • Explaining to landlords and businesses why certain service animals are used 
    • Assist people with learning how to exercise their rights, use mediation to resolve differences, and file complaints 
  • Housing Services 
    • Provide information about one's rights under fair housing laws
    • Helps individuals obtain affordable or accessible housing 
    • Assists people with applications for Section 8 
    • Help with filling out applications for rent & utility assistance
  • Medical Equipment Loan Bank 
    • borrow or keep donated medical equipment
    • first come, first serve basis - contact front desk to confirm inventory

  • Peer Support Groups 
    • Peer Support: meets every Monday virtually on zoom from 3pm-4pm. Participants take part in free-flowing conversation. Topics range from rants about work, to asking for advice about personal coping strategies to deal with daily stress 
    • Music Therapy: meets on the 2nd Monday of the month from 3pm-3:45pm. Led by a licensed music therapist. 
    • Art Group: meets every Friday from 3pm-4pm. Participants take part in a planned art activity, complete coloring pages, or do their own art. 
    • Creative Writing Group: meets on the 4th Wednesday of the month from 3pm-4pm. Participants meet to share their own original poems, short stories, songs, and non-fiction works with the group.
