Starting May 18, you may begin picking up holds that have been waiting on the shelf since the building closed in March due to COVID-19. We'll offer this service daily between 2-6 PM by appointment only. Read more about our phased reopening.

Library staff will practice safe social distancing and wear gloves and face masks. Please maintain a 6-foot distance between you and your fellow humans.

Step 1: Make an appointment

Step 2: Park and follow signs

This is a walk-up service only. You'll need to park in the garage just south of the library lawn or in the surrounding metered parking spaces. You will not be required to park a bicycle.

Please follow signs to the southwest corner of the library lawn where you'll find us waiting for you.

Step 3: Walk up and pick up holds

When you get here, we'll verify your name and library card number. Next, you’ll find your items on a table in a brown paper bag. Yours will be the one printed with the last four numbers of your library card number. If you have to cancel, call us as soon as possible at (785) 843-3833 to make arrangements.

Unclaimed holds will be canceled after 24 hours.

This is not a returns spot

Staff cannot accept returns or donations at the walk-up site — no exceptions.

Returns and donations

Please return library materials to our main book drop located on the back side of the library at 7th and Kentucky Streets. Returned items will be properly quarantined for 72 hours before being checked in. The Library Friends & Foundation is not accepting book donations at this time.

Placing new holds

We know you’re excited to start placing holds again and hope to reopen this service by June 8 (or earlier). When we do, we’ll announce it here on our homepage, on social media, and in our eNewsletter.
